Diaspora Activists cum Scholars meet OIA Secy
The Secretary of Overseas Indian Affairs of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sri Dyneshwar Mulay, met with two activists cum scholars of the Indian diaspora in early March at his office in Delhi in a courtesy call. Sri Mulay-ji was most gracious in his hospitality according to the visitors. They thanked him for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with them.
Dr Vishnu Bisram, a diaspora specialist, and Mr Pawan K Upadhyaya, a tracing roots expert, held discussions on various issues impacting on the Indo Caribbean (girmitya) diaspora. Dr. Bisram has written extensively on the diaspora while Mr. Upadhyay has helped several Indo-Caribbeans to find their roots in India (states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar). The two visitors discussed their research projects on the diaspora and furthering links with diaspora organizations in India.
