Retired banker and road runner Niranjan Bhaggan has passed on last Friday. His passing was a shock to all who knew him. Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.

A resident of Lange Park, Niranjan Bhaggan was born at Endeavour. His grandfather, Bhaggan, donated the two lots of land for the construction of the Endeavour Hindu School.

He studied at Endeavour Hindu School, Chaguanas Government, Presentation College, Chaguanas and had his tertiary education in banking and finance at Dawson College, Toronto, Canada.

He worked with several banks and was specialised in Debt Recoveries. He was last employed at Island Roofing.

Niranjan has distinguished himself as a road runner completing fifteen marathons including the New York Marathon and the London Marathon and numerous 5Ks and 10Ks races.

A health and fitness enthusiast, NIranjan was keen in spreading a culture of a healthy living to the average man and woman, boy and girl. Recently he was the driving force behind a Walk-a-thon and Family Day held on June 23, 2018 at Bamboo No 1 Mandir.  More than 120 participants took part in the event. Medals, T Shirt and souvenir cups were printed and distributed to every participant. There were also several booths where local companies and self-driven enterprises displayed health related products and skills.

His enthusiastic spirit to work with the community would be missed by many.  He has lived a full life combining academic, work, travel, family and community service into a culture  that we can all emulate and apply to our daily life. He was a Hindu and did his annual poojas including the distribution of bags of goodies to children. On Thursday last, the day before his passing, he had a pooja to mark his 32nd marriage anniversary. Meals were prepared and served to neighbours, friends and relatives.

Nirnajan has left to mourn his wife Chan, his sisters, relatives, neighbours and friends. ICDN, the devotees of Bamboo No 1 and his many friends at Endeavour would surely miss him.
