Five (5) Bands to Perform in Concert for Flood Victims

Five (5) orchestras, twenty-four vocalists, two tassa groups and four dance troupes are booked to perform in a Friends of Victims of Flood Concert on Sunday 9th December at the Couva/Point Lisas Chamber Auditorium starting 4 pm. The Concert is presented by National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) and promises to be a treat for music lovers.

“This would be the biggest gathering of artistes at a single venue and all proceeds would go towards assisting victims of the recent floods that devastated large parts of the country,” said Surujdeo Mangaroo, Public Relations Officers of the NCIC .

Rakesh Yankaran, Neval Chatelal, Rooplal G and Anil Bheem are among two dozen vocalists to perform in this grand event. Other vocalists are Nishard M, Satnarine Ragoo, Rooplal G, Nadia Madoo, Veejai Ramkisooon, Dubraj Persad, Kavita Ramkissoon, Sally Sagram, Ravi Jagroop, Rakesh Yankaran, Kenneth Supersad, Nirmal Sesnarayan, Shiva Chaitoo, Narendra Maharaj, Abhijit Anchortassooo, Daddy Chinee, Karishma Dowtal, Neeshad Sultan, Anthony Batson, Rajesh Dallah & Nelisha Mohammed.

The five bands are GT Band Powered by T&TEC, Charile’s Beena Sangeet, BRANTEX Avatar The Band, NITHYA-the everlasting sound of music and RAWTEE & Modern Electrical Rhythms. The biggest bands in entertainment in the country, the evening promises to be extra-ordinary.

Tassa players and dancers have joined in this grand charity exercise. Tassa rhythms would be supplied by NGC T&T Sweet Tassa and FCB Dragon Boys Tassa Group and dancers include world renowned Shiv Shakti Dance Company along with Prema Shakti Dancers, Khalnayak Academy of Dance and Nritya Sangam Dance Co.

Generous sponsors have come forth to lend a hand to this most deserving effort. Among them are RPL (1991) Ltd; All Events Lighting Systems; Kiss Productions; 103.1 FM; C.P.C.C.

“I am so pleased with the support that this concert has received so far. It is this kind of co-operation that provides the strength and the courage to fight on despite all the odds. I feel confident that the people are going to come out in their numbers to support this noble cause,” declared Mangaroo.

Ticket are priced at $100:00 and available at NCIC Office, Chaguanas; Double R Auto Supplies, Main Road, Balmain, Couva;  Laxmi Jewellers, San Fernando and Jwalla Persad Supermarket, Debe.

Several parts of the country were under water for several days. Many had to be rescued by boats and many slept on their roofs of their houses. Families lost their kitchen appliances, furniture and mattresses. Many were left with only the clothes on their backs. Farmers suffered loss of crops and livestock. Damages are estimated at tens of millions of dollars and most victims are yet to receive financial help from the government.
