Indentureship Conference in January
A conference on indenturedship is being planned for January 20, 2018 at Benares Hindu University (BHU). The conference will discuss all aspects of the girmitya indenture diaspora including its relations with India and the rest of the diaspora.
Pawan K Upadhyay, Director of Indian Diaspora International Center (IDIC), held discussions with members of the Social Science faculty at BHU on organizing the one day conference. IDIC, based in Lucknow, is co-organizer and co/planner of the conference. Among the faculty members he met were Prof Ghanshyam of Social Science department history section and Prof. K K Mishra head of the department of Political Science. Both are working on issues Indian diaspora. Among other planners and organizers are adr Vishnu Bisram of the Caribbean and Dr Satish Rai of the Fiji and Australia diaspora.
Pawan met with Profs Mishra, Ghan Sham and Shailesh to discuss planning and organizing the international conference On the girmitya indian Diaspora. The program of the conference will be based on the importance of the girmitya diaspora and India as well as the importance of culture, education, technology, investment, business, trade, etc.
BHU is a world famous university and it it is situated in Varanasi well known as Kashi the holy city situated on the bank of holy Ganga river. Varanasi is an ancient city famous for astrology. This city has lot of learned Pandit.
This program will be done in the heart of winter time when weather will be very pleasant and temperature will be around 5 to 10 degrees. It also coincides with PBD 2019, the 15th edition.
