Ramdath Jagessar has put in over 40 years promoting and defending the Indian cause in Trinidad and Canada, with his latest activity being a columnist for ICDN.today and a lead researcher with the Wismar Massacre Research Group. His earlier efforts included membership in the Society for the Promotion of Indian Culture at UWI St Augustine in 1973, writing for the Indian resistance group Mukdar from 1974, president of the Indian Revival and Reform Association and secretary of the Indian Arrival Day Committee that developed the festival of Indian Arrival Day in Trinidad. He was also a coordinator for the Committee Against Racism in Calypso of 1988 that protested anti-Indian racism by calypsonian Cro Cro. Ram migrated to Canada in 1989 and immediately became secretary of the India Canada Association of Sudbury. He moved to Toronto in 1996 to take up the position of coordinator of the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians. In 1997 he was one of the founders of the Indo Trinidad Canadian Association of Toronto, and helped expand celebrations of Indian Arrival Day into Indian Arrival and Heritage Month. This month was passed into law in Ontario as South Asian Heritage Month. Ram was a nine year columnist with the Indo Caribbean World newspaper, started his own newspaper Indo Caribbean Times, helped develop the heritage web site Indo Caribbean Heritage and worked with the Debe Penal Chowtal Association to promote chowtal in Canada. He has worked with the Gita in Every Home group, for which he edited Mahatma Gandhi`s translation of the Bhagavad Gita. He is currently an executive member of the Voice of Dharma mandir, and has been a member of the Canadian Divine Light mandir and the Satya Jyoti Cultural Sabha.
