The epic story of Indians in the Caribbean is NOT only plagued with coronas virus but throughout the Diaspora history is plagued with subtle and sometimes brutal racism in the Caribbean, especially, in Trinidad and Guyana which is imposed by so-called FREED SLAVES.
In Trinidad Indians are denigrated with racial words and phrases as “recalcitrant” and “pumpkin, baaghi and pholourie / bara people” who deal in laundering money. But Indians are always last in the gimmie, gimmie give me more handout line. In Guyana, Indians suffer every five years with the burden to withstand rigged elections by FREED slaves with brutal violence or under the threat of it.
Indians are also plagued with non-combatant leadership. The logic of the former now freed slaves is the root of the political ethnic evils in Trinidad and Guyana. The Logic of former Slaves is that the African race during slavery suffered more and therefore the Africans are entitled to first rights to power and wealth compensation as far as the African eyes can see. How does one measure suffer? I leave for the intellectuals to figure out.
History of Slavery spares no ethnic group on Planet Earth. Europeans were enslaving their own White people as in the time of Julius Caesar and the British English slaves. Arabs enslaved in the East just as much as the White Christian did in the West so why only shed light on one group? Arabs were enslaving Africans before the white man landed, they sold Pagan African slaves to White Christians. In fact, Arab Muslims are still enslaving Africans, Pilipino and others.
NEW WORLD AND SLAVERY.
In the New World the White Man ‘discovered’ the Americas and the Caribbean. After annihilating the indigenous people and experimenting with his own people- white slaves [prisoners] failed, the Europeans looked towards Africa and India. While Africans were brought to the New World via the Transatlantic Slave Trade to the Americas and the Caribbean as slaves, Indian children and adults from India were kidnapped and transported to South Africa, others parts of Africa and the Caribbean by the Dutch Company and SOLD to support White Settlements of domestic and field work. (The Indian Slaves in South Africa – by – E.S. Reddy.)
Many of these Indians were taken from Bengal and the coast of Kerala to the Cape of Good Hope and sold into SLAVERY. What needs to be understood about the Indians’ dilemma in the New World is that the Indian labourers were both SLAVES and INDENTURED servants. Indian slaves had NO rights just like African Slaves and frequently Indentured Indian contractual labourers’ rights were violated and they were treated as Slaves. Who was there to make sure that Indians received what they were promised.
At the time of the Transatlantic Slave Trade Indians were the ones that were ENSLAVED in Africa, NOT ONLY AFRICANS, who were shipped as slaves outside Africa. The slave Indians and indentured Indians who worked the fields and built railways to develop Africa who after independence in Uganda were raped, murdered, their daughters taken and they were then kicked out. In the Caribbean, unlike the contractual Indian labourer, the kidnapped Indians were SLAVES and had NO RIGHTS. Many of the Indians who were indentured because of their NON CHRISTIAN FAITH lost their land rights because it was not transferable to their wives or children.
So, using the logic of Africans in the Caribbean and that African slaves must be compensated for their free labour, and the African must have first rights to power and wealth as far as the African eyes can see then the Indian SLAVES in Africa should also be compensated by Africans and be given first privileges in Africa for having inherited what the White Man left off and built on Indian sweat. They should also be compensated and given retributions for their rape and genocide in Uganda when their lands were taken. Similarly, the kidnapped Indians and the Indentured Indians who lost their land rights as NON CHRISTIANS should be compensated by the African governments of Trinidad / Guyana because the African government inherited all White Institutions and lands (Caroni/Guysuco) and built projects for Africans. They were educated first and inherited everything and all political power for decades. What compensation do we get for that?
In conclusion, yes, we had Indian slaves too. If African slaves were entitled to reparations then so are Indians from Africans and Indians should be entitled to whatever Africans think they are entitled to using African logic.
Christopher Columbus did not ‘ discovered ‘ Trinidad for Africans.
Sir Walter Raleigh did not ‘discovered ‘ Guyana for Africans.
After 175 years in Trinidad what foundations have built, not so happy.
