At Reconciliation Service in Fiji

A reconciliation and thanksgiving service was held in Fiji on Sunday May 14 to promote peace and respect among the diverse groups in the islands nation. Dr Vishnu Bisram, a specialist on the Indian diaspora, and several other Guyanese and Caribbean people attended the ceremony. Also in attendance were delegates from around the globe to participate in an international conference on indentureship or Girmityas. At the conference, Dr Bisram engaged former Prime Minister Mahendra Pal Chaudhry whose government was toppled by the military in 2000 and he and members of the cabinet were held as hostages.
