The electoral system in Trinidad has to be changed to be free and fair for all of its citizens so all parties can have equal representation.
What is the sense in voting when the electoral boundaries are fixed for a particular party or ethnic group to always win?
In Trinidad political parties engage in political and economic issues through their campaign knowing the voting system and the electoral boundaries are biased and predictable as to which party will win the seat of the government.
The history of Trinidad political parties is mainly RACE BASED as the African / Black PNM party managed to rig the political boundaries and imported Blacks from other Caribbean Islands for the purpose of building Black PNM voter
banks to defeat the Indian base party – DLP / UNC – for decades.
The Indian political party in Trinidad for most of the country’s post-Independence period has remained out of government, except for 10 years.
The fact that Indians who are the 37% of the population and the largest ethnic group yet remain in the opposition with no real power is the reason for the Indian Community’s underdevelopment.
Indians and their leaders must fight not only to change the electoral PNM fixed boundaries , but also to change the political system to empower the opposition party to have power to develop their communities with less
interference from the Central Government.
In Trinidad , today , the opposition has NO POWER but to complain to the ruling party PNM which does not care to listen or make changes.
Its time Indians demand their political leaders to change their political software and fight to change the electoral boundaries and agitate for some form of decentralize power so their constituents can develop programs tailored to meet their needs.
This dominance of African rule over Indians as a majority race has to STOP! And yes, We Indians can force the political system to change. Taxations and NO Representations is a RECIPE with political consequences.
