On World Press Freedom Day on May 3 2022, has MATT vindicated Rowley and the PNM on the allegations that they have been spying on citizens?

IRA MATHUR, the President of the Media Assoc says, “… Last month, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley strenuously denied various accusations by public figures that the State is spying on journalists, judges, and parliamentarians.

MATT welcomed this news as we are aware that without checks and balances, surveillance can be a sharp instrument that rips through citizens’ democratic rights to privacy and threatens the rights, freedom and safety of journalists.”

Does MATHUR and MATT have all the information and evidence to make such a bold pronouncement and vindicate Rowley and the PNM on the very troubling allegations of spying by the State on citizens?

Is Mathur and the Media Association saying that while several of its members were named as being spied upon by the Manning-led PNM Administration, it is “comfortable” that the politically controlled SSA now has complete control of the Government’s entire spying software?
