India‘s 77th Independence Day was Celebrated on 15 August 2023 by the High Commission of India in Guyana at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on 15 August 2023. The members of the Indian diaspora, Indian nationals, friends of India, representatives of cultural organisations in Guyana, and members of the media were also present.
Charge d’Affaires Shri Amir Chand hoisted the Indian National Flag followed by National Anthem. The message of the Hon’ble President of India H.E. Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of Independence Day, was then read by Charge d’Affaires Shri Chand. This was followed by cultural items including Indian classical dance, poems, and patriotic songs.
The High Commission of India has also been organizing various events since March 2021 to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. A virtual exhibition to commemorate Partition Horror Remembrance Day was organised on 14 August 2023 at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre. The exhibition was inaugurated by a senior and prominent member of the Indian Diaspora in Guyana Mr Kanhaiya Lal Kriplani. Charge d’Affaires Shri Amir Chand gave brief remarks on the occasion explaining the significance of the event. The exhibition will continue till 16 August.
