The International Court of Justice must charge David Granger for the deaths and ongoing violence against innocent Guyanese on the streets of the country. Guyanese have endured enough and the fact that they are standing up to APNU goons and police only demonstrates that they are fed up.

Since the late 1950s when the Indo-Guyanese-dominated PPP took power in Guyana there have been looting and burning of businesses in Georgetown, physical attacks on innocent citizens by supporter of APNU-AFC. Then, it was the unseen hands of the CIA that instigated those demonstrations to remove the Cheddi Jagan government that was perceived as communist and aligned with the Soviet Union. Jagan had foolishly courted such reactions after he openly declared himself a communist.

Independence was granted to Guyana in 1966 after the changing of the electoral system from first past the post to proportional representation that resulted in the PNC and the UF joining force to uproot Jagan from office. The British was actively engaged in this electoral machination to see the back of Cheddi Jagan!

Forbes Burnham, the elected President, subsequently rigged every general election with the British and Americans not batting an eyelid. This electoral fraud continued under his successors until 1992 when there were free and fair elections, thanks to the intervention of international observers’ teams such as the Carter Center, OAS and Commonwealth etc.

Known to be vociferous against apartheid South Africa and white colonial government in Rhodesia, Caricom governments were silent on the evils of the Forbes Burnham dictatorship. Even Caribbean social and cultural institutions such as OWTU and NJAC remained dumb!

Sridath Ramphal, a former attorney general under Burnham, was elected Secretary General of the Commonwealth. He was an appropriate mascot for the ruling PNC to mask it practice of naked racism and crimes against Indo-Guyanese. Despite Ramphal’s occupation of such high office Guyana sank to the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Guyanese of all races and denominations were left with one choice: migration.  Those left behind have never given up hope of leaving one day. Though Guyanese dream of returning to their homeland, at the back of his head was always the fear of social upheavals.

This is exactly what happened when the verification of SOPs for Region 4 stopped on March 04. Claudette Singh, Chairperson of GECOM, was confined to a room in the GECOM building against her will. Granger, with no thought of the international image of the country, declared himself victorious.

Now the PPP/C leaders and supporters decided that they would protest the illegal declaration of victory by David Granger. More so, the international observers including OAS, the Commonwealth and European observers along with foreign diplomats, have joined in calling on the resumption of verifying the SOPs of Region 4. This gross and obscene violation of the laws of the land, is the working of a mentally deranged individual.

David Granger’s name has always been identified with the rigging of elections in Guyana during the Burnham regime. It was rumoured that while Burnham was the brain behind the rigging of election, it was Brigadier Granger that executed the dirty work. Several persons were killed in the process and the country’s economy sank to the ground.

Granger has to be insane to have done what he did. The world order has changed. There is no Soviet Union and communist threats. Donald Trump is not going to standby idly and allow this “shithole” country to sink deeper into the abyss of human degradation. Trump is weary of this dependency of countries where the leaders act irresponsibly and then demand that the international world bail them out with food, handouts and loans.

The Modi government of India is not going to stand idly by and allow David Granger and his hoodlums to trample on the rights and security of people of Indian origin. The BJP in its manifesto has laid much emphasis on working closer with the Indian diaspora. Should Granger continue on his blind path, I would not be surprised to hear India leading the call in the United Nations for his demise.

I remain optimistic that the pressures from the international bodies monitoring the elections in Guyana are going to force David Granger to allow GECOM its role to verify the SOPS in Region 4 and declare the victor.

David Granger is a smear on democracy and his presence in Guyana should be terminated. He should be allowed to leave the country for some haven in Africa or European to spend his golden years.
