My most sincere condolences go out to the family of Rennie Ramnarine who tragically passed away early this morning. The musical landscape in Trinidad and Tobago, and Chutney music in particular, has lost a talented and beloved musician who has graced the stage with his band, Dil-e-Nadan since joining the band in the 1980s.
Rennie Ramnarine will be sadly missed by all who have been following his career since his performance in Mastana Bahar in 1990, where he reached the finals along with his brother Raymond. While there is no shortage of talent within the Ramnarine family, Rennie will surely be missed by Raymond and Richard for his talented vocals and guitar skills in their band, but also as their elder brother whom they have known all their lives.
It has been known since February 2019 that Rennie had been suffering from renal failure and required regular dialysis treatment until a transplant could be found. Unfortunately, early this morning it appears that he was not able to hold out any longer.
Rennie leaves behind his wife Maria, and his three daughters Samara, Samiya and Raveena Marie to mourn his loss and my deepest sympathies go out to them in this time of loss. Despite his long battle with renal failure, I am sure his loss will still come as a shock to his family, and no amount of preparation might have prepared them for his sudden passing.
May his soul be blessed with eternal peace and comfort.
