This COVID-19 has me confused. But it appears to have medics confused also, notwithstanding Ian Alleyne’s complaints of being tested negative one day, positive the next day, and then negative the following day and still not allowed to leave the quarantine center at Caura Hospital after being in ‘custody’ for 21 days. My big question is: Do we have a coronavirus pandemic in this country? I don’t know of a single individual in my neighbourhood or outside who was tested positive. Is Covid 19 now a handmaiden of the government to serve its agenda?

This is drama live. It is original, not a copy of any Hollywood or Bollywood production. This is what makes our country so exciting, so much so, that though we ill-speak it, we still not leaving and if we leave, we are always longing to return. Those stranded in Barbados have no patience to sit out this lockdown; they in a to return to enjoy the bacchanal and goobar!

Even Guyanese who are residing abroad are asking that the borders be opened for their return, despite the ongoing fall out and confusion related to the counting of ballots and the declaration of a winner. The scare of CV 19 is enough reason to want to leave New York; and given the projected 53% rise in GDP for 2020, Guyana is definitely the place to be heading toward notwithstanding the ongoing political shenanigans of GECOM and APNU-AFC.

How much should we trust the opinion of our medics when we are ill? The average person confronted with an ailment has been cultured to feel that he has no choice but to surrender his life in the hands of his doctor whose knowledge is so ‘profound and abstract’ that it cannot be communicated to lay minds. Nevertheless, there will always be the few with the moral courage to question the actions of medics and the medical industry including WHO.

WHO and hospitals are not the beginning and end of medical knowledge as some would like to have us believe. Individuals like Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai will always pop up to expose the greed of the pharmaceutical giants and their agents in public offices to facilitate their greed.

Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai has recommended Vitamins A, D and C to fight the coronavirus and saw no need to develop a vaccine. He believes that this hype associated with coronavirus is a ruse to get government to buy into a global vaccination drive with Bill Gates positioned to make billions of dollars when implemented.

Dr. Vandana Shiva, an Indian environmentalist and social activist, has compared the current pandemic to MONSANTO’S involvement in agriculture not to empower farmers but to profiteer. MONSANTO has developed new strains of seeds that needs artificial fertilizers, pesticides and other inputs marketed by multinational corporations. In the long runs farmers have been experiencing low crop yields, depletion of soil fertility, lowering of the water table leading to droughts, increasing dependence of pesticide etc. Farmers lose big times in this biotechnological approach to agriculture, resulting in suicides when they cannot pay their debts while Monsanto walks away with huge profits.

Medical knowledge should not be the monopoly of government and big business. Folk medicine or homeopathy that has been used around the world for millennia should be allowed to flourish and not denounced and degraded by medics.

Many would testify that lemon juice mixed in honey help get rid of their flu and cough. Folk medicine which is usually derived from a plant in the back yard is free. I would not hesitate to guess that folk medicine is more popular that modern medicine in the world today. I sincerely hope that we are not waiting on the arrival of a white woman from Sweeden  to tell us the medical and nutritional value of bhaji and dhal in our diet.

Also, we need not take whole sale what is sold to us by institutions like WHO and individuals like Bill Gates. We need to question whatever we read, ask questions, look out for inconsistencies and gaps. We cannot afford to continue to have the first world “pissing on our heads and we shouting that rain is falling.” The truth is our intelligence must always be used to check, analyze and review whatever actions or knowledge is out there. Should we cease to do so, we shall be surrendering to COVID-19 and no amount of social distancing is going to help.
