Desecration of the Deities by “Baby Skello”

Dear Editor

I write to you today as a concerned Guyanese citizen who has been deeply wounded by the recent acts of criminal vulgarity that have targeted the religious beliefs, sacred traditions, and the very Deity revered by the majority of this nation.

These acts by “Baby Skello” are not merely offensive—they are a direct assault on the spiritual fabric that binds our Guyanese society. When such vulgarity is allowed to flourish without consequences, it endangers social harmony, disrespects the foundational values of our Constitution, and violates the rights of Guyanese to practice their faith with dignity and without fear.

I respectfully urge President Irfaan Ali to:

1: Initiate a thorough and impartial investigation into the origin and dissemination of the song.
2: Hold accountable those responsible under relevant laws, ensuring that justice is both served and seen to be served.
3: Review and, if necessary, strengthen existing legislation to prevent the recurrence of such acts in the future.
4: Publicly affirm the government’s commitment to safeguarding the religious integrity and sentiments of all Guyanese.

Freedom of expression is a vital cornerstone of democracy, but it must never be misused to incite hatred, defile sacred beliefs, or promote communal discord. The silence or inaction of many in our leadership only serves to deepen the wounds inflicted on the fabric of our Nation.

I trust in your leadership, your wisdom, and your commitment to justice. Let us come together in defense of respect, unity, and the spiritual dignity of our people.

Respectfully yours,
Bishop Prem Tika
Levittown, PA
