DR. NICOLE BISSESSAR APPOINTED AS DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY CULTURAL AFFAIRS

Dr. Nicole Bissessar

The Indian Diaspora Council (IDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nicole Bissessar as its Director of Community Cultural Affairs. The appointment is effective immediately.

Dr. Bissessar hails from Trinidad & Tobago and is a highly skilled economist, broker, and educator with a strong academic background. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Clark University and an M.S. and B.S. in Economics from The University of the West Indies – St. Augustine campus.

With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Bissessar is proficient in teaching and curriculum development across various platforms, including online and traditional settings. Her expertise includes finance, macro- and microeconomics, econometrics, quantitative studies, and global studies.

In addition to her academic career, Dr. Bissessar has a deep interest in Vedic and Ayurveda studies. She has worked with holistic approaches to community well-being in India, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean. In 2023, she was honored for her community work by the Queens Borough President, Hon. Donovan Richards, the Indian Diaspora Council, and Rohtak University in Haryana, India. The Central University of Rajasthan appointed her as the honorary speaker for their two-day conference focusing on sustainability, resilience, and the future of India in the face of global challenges.

Additionally, Dr. Bissessar developed a comprehensive curriculum for the accreditation of Maharshi Dayanada Gurukula in Guyana and was instrumental in co-naming a street in Queens, NY, as Maharshi Gurukula Way in 2022.

Dr. Bissessar is a faculty member and subject matter expert in Economics at Southern New Hampshire University and William & Mary College. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Kent State University from 2009 to 2018.
