Now that Rowley has declared himself the winner, we now have to await the outcome of the recount that Kamla requested. So, for the time I want to reminisce on the politics and recent events through the posts of Jairaj Singh on Facebook. Hope you enjoy it!
Facebook makes for interesting reading! Here is Jairaj Singh: “Rowley say monkey does eat banana!! He doh know birds, agoutis, manikoos, rats and people does also eat???” This was an obvious reference to Rowley’s interpretation of a UNC ad where a shopper gave a destitute some bananas. The political leader of the PNM interpreted that gesture of kindness as racist.
More trilling was when I scroll down I saw Jairaj singing with his arm around Basdeo Panday. And this brings me to another monkey talk at Felicity in 2010 when Kamla and Jack formed an alliance to wrest the UNC form Basdeo Panday. Basdeo Panday said that “Kamla has to get that monkey off her back if she wishes to be leader.” Panday quickly added: “Let me clarify myself before I am accused of referring to Jack Warner.”
But life is not only about misinterpretations but also about entertainment. This time it was singing and young Nishad Mayroo and Jairaj were doing a Kishore Kumar’s number- “Aghar tum na hota.” Happy that Jairaj can entertain an audience rather than talking about bananas and monkey! Leave that for Rowley!
But then as I scrolled down I came upon Jairaj and Kenneth Seepersad. Kenneth, a versatile artiste, entertains the young, old, and the kids with songs- many his own compositions-and jokes. I was happy to witness him entertain children at Bamboo No 1 Temple and it was superb. Kenneth convinced me that you can be popular without a university degree and other high academic achievements.
But then as I scrolled down there is the PNM ad “Mousie and her “Dome,” a base and gross attempt to ridicule the Political Leader of the UNC. But such an ad is not offensive to PNM’s supporters because now is silly season but the UNC’s ad on giving a hand of bananas to a hungry black man is offensive. The PNM surely has a penchant for low comedy! Upset and angry because I am a big fan of Kamla, the next post by Jairaj read: “The vP of Venezuela came to TnT to ask if we need face masks, we said no, we don’t need. And the meeting ended.”
I scrolled down and saw Jairaj sitting with his wife, embracing her and both looking directly into the camera. Jairaj wrote: Wishing my Lovely Wife happy birthday.” “Lovely Wife” …note the use of capital letters. Jairaj’s happy birthday posts have 419 likes, 265 comments, and 3 shares…my congratulations to you and your wife.
I did not want to stick so I scrolled down on to read “Was just listening to Akash Samaroo on CNC3… He sounds like Akash ‘Asha’ Samaroo..” No comments…just moving forward. Another post was a red lotus with the caption “Just picked from my pond.” That lotus flower attracted 263 likes, 82 comments, and 4 shares. It only shows that people will always have an attraction of beauty!
The next post was interesting. It was a picture of Kenneth Seepersad, Jairaj and Nice vibes sitting on three read chairs closely together to make sure the that Kenneth was not left out. It was a wedding in Cunjal.
And then-posted “Can’t believe after so many years, Rowley and his PNM continue to blame Kamla…I just can’t believe this…” And for this post Jairaj received 75 likes and 25 comments and 19 shares. It only demonstrates the interest Rowley attracts!
Some on called me and I stepped out. It was my neighbor and the talk was politics. This was not Facebook but live, with all the facial muscles and hand movement and voice intonations: “You know is good the lady loss. Rowley make his mess and let him clean it up.” I looked at him and responded: “You have a good point.”
And an African friend came visiting. “All you win we.” The African friend said: “Well, is pressure now start…house tax and starvation.”
I realize I was going back in time when I came to this post by Jairaj: “Anyone from South going to Dole wake in Sea Lots??? If you have place I ‘d like to go with you.”
And I now close with this post by Jairaj: “The Dookoo fella down by the cemetery…We need he for the general election. .Everything he do does backfire on he…We need him by the cemetery and also by the creek.”
Facebook is a treasure chest of contemporary events and can contribute much to make you smile, laughs, experience disgusts, and feel hurt and outraged.
