Gandhi’s 154th Celebrated in Guyana

The 154 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the world apostle of peace, was observed on Monday, October 2 in Guyana. The Indian HC issued the below release:

High Commission of India and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre Georgetown celebrated the 154th birth anniversary of #MahatmaGandhi today at Promenade Gardens. Hon Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, Hon. Ms Sonia Parag, Minister of Public Service, His Worshipful Alfred Mentore Mayor of Georgetown along with members of the Diplomatic corps, distinguished members of the Indian diaspora, government ministries, media, etc. offered floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue. The proceedings commenced with the religious prayers followed by a brief speech by Cd’A Mukesh Kaushik. Minister Sonia Parag and Chief Guest Minister Dr Anthony also delivered their insightful remarks. The main message which was emphasized by all speakers was that today is the day to commence our individual journey to follow Gandhiji’s ideals for a better world. Ms. Uma Desabhotla, an exponent of Carnatic Classical music tradition, gave a wonderful rendition of Gandhiji’s favorite Bhajan, ‘Vaishnav Jan Te’. The event attracted around 80 Gandhian acolytes.
