Hanuman Jayanti – a Great Hindu Festival

Hanuman Jayanti - a Great Hindu Festival

Hanuman Jayanti or the appearance of Lord Hanuman is celebrated on Wednesday evening in the West. Hanuman Jayanti is observed on the full moon in April. This year it falls on April 5. It is a great festival brought from India to the West by Indentured Hindus when they came to labor on plantations in the Caribbean. From there, Hindus transplanted the festival to North America, UK, and Holland. The festival has a lot of traditions like fasting and worshiping at a mandir or performing special puja at home or place of business.

On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, greetings all! Mandirs conduct Full Moon Pooja and Satyanarayana Katha and chant the Hanuman Chalisa or scripture. The festival provides an opportunity to connect with the divine and seek Lord Hanuman’s blessings. Pious Hindus fast for the occasion.

Rituals and oblations are performed along with a discourse from the presiding pandit. Hindus tend to invite pandit into their home to conduct a special Hanuman puja.

Jai Bajrang Bali! Below are some special Hanuman Jayanti greetings!
