Dear editor,
133 days ago something happened at Paria that trapped five men in a pipe. One escaped later that day and brought news that the other four were alive. In the days that followed, the government, the board and the management of Paria not only abandoned those men, but actively prevented others from attempting a rescue. I was there and have all of it captured on video. The end result was the death of those men, and since then in true to form fashion the combined incompetence of the government and opposition has resulted in no investigations of any kind and no prosecutions for that clear act of manslaughter if not worse.
I write this to remind Trinidad & Tobago that while ministers and MPs were drunk for Carnival weekend, I was there with the families through it all fighting for their rescue. I have all of my footage and stand ready to raise the issue again in the public space to get justice for these men regardless of what stunts may prevail.
I write this to remind you that when they were in that pipe we did not care about race nor religion or any other social divider, and we do not care now. We only knew our brothers were trapped and that we had a duty to fight for them.
That duty still stands.
Make no mistake they could bring Queen’s Counsels, they could bring the Queen herself, at the end of all of this the persons responsible for consigning those men to death must be prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows and those families compensated.
Nothing less will be acceptable.
