INDENTURESHIP IS DEAD AND GONE

Dear Leaders of Guyana

Indentureship is dead and gone and all those promises to revitalize the sugar and farming industries will not be of benefit to Indians. The PNC or APNU government wants to create 10,000 jobs for sugar workers. Why must Indians be locked up in agriculture forever? PPP Presidential candidate Irfaan Ali wants sugar workers to return to the fields to plant pumpkins, plantain, and rice for whom?

Guyana is now an oil rich country with lots of U.S. dollars presently employing thousands of African Guyanese. The leaders of Guyana thought it fitting for Indians to return to labour intensive agriculture under horrific conditions to feed who?

Why Africans Guyanese must get the high paying jobs with good working conditions and be exposed to new technological engineering discipline while Indians work in the sun all day? Indians too must be employed in the high tech industries with good salaries, and working conditions. The oil industry is a whole new dimension in Guyana that will need many Guyanese in high tech, computer science and different disciplines in engineering.

Agriculture land should be shared among the Guyanese and let the labour be hired from the new wave of immigrants. Guyanese Indians have all rights to work in air conditioned buildings with short hours and have leisure time with their families as Africans do.

It’s time the government of Guyana to STOP depending on COOLIE labor for only agriculture. With all this OIL money floating in Guyana this will be a LITMUS test whether RICH people like to enlist in the ARMY since most Guyanese especially Africans will have lots of money.

Will the Africans refrain from enlisting in the armed forces with their new found wealth?  Or, will  they still join the armed forces because it gives them ethnic security?
