We often tend to defend our Indian contributions to Trinidad base on economics and not our Dharmic Culture. It’s true that many Indians in Trinidad who landed as Coolie Labours saving Trinidad Argo – economy were meet with criticisms by the ex- African Slaves that the coolie people reduce their bargaining power to work for their White Masters was indeed comprise by the Indians / Coolies.
The saga of this debates of reducing Blacks negotiated power to continue to in fields has no end. But we do know that Indians continue to in the fields – Sugar, Cocoa, Coffee, Rice, Roots food and 100 years plus before a percentage of Indians left the fields.
Those first crop of Indians who left the fields was not educated as the Free Anglo Black Man and therefore had to create jobs of their own [ small business] survive. Government jobs and Judea – Christian structures were also a wall against having any job placement in the Civil Services.
So, What cause Indians in spite of RACISTS blocks against to strive with a CODE OF CIVILITY in Trinidad to create jobs when necessary and to be good Citizen is the greatest GIFT to Trinadad by Indians the Mahabharat, the Hindu Culture or Sanatan Dharma that teaches us Civility, Economic Self- Reliance, Work Ethics [ Phagwa] , Ramleela destroying evils, a Festivals that Dreck Wallcott Nobel Prize winner admired and commented that it’s a pity that most Trinidadians are not expose to this play.
Had the Government of Trinidad and its people show respects for Sanatan Dharma – Hinduism and kept it alive in its various institutions Trinidad Civility would be the best in the Caribbean.
