INDIANS AND BLACK HISTORY

Dear Editor,

So, it came to pass Black History Month was Celebrated in Queens NY by Dr.Dhanpaul Narine and Ashook Ramsaran with Indo Guyanese reading books about African heroes and their historical narrative and their contributions in America.

Some of the stories read by Dr. Dhanpaul were about African heroes like Frederick Douglas, Martin Luther King Jr and Harriet Tubman who fought for the freedom of slaves and the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950/ 60s that led to civil rights for everyone.

When it comes to Indo – Guyanese participating in Black History Month it is obscene as they are NOT teaching these kids how and why their parents ended up with immigration from Bharat to Guyana and then to North America. This s is just an injustice to Indo – Guyanese children.

Why does Dr. Dhapaul Narine and Ashkook Ramsaran want Indo – Guyanese children to know that the rights and freedom they have is only that which comes from Black America and not White People too. White people wrote the declaration of independence and established America.

And why these Indo Children are not taught once upon a time there was Forbes Burnham and Desmond Hoyte and the PNC party which created Black racism which KICKED Indo – Guyanese out of Guyana to have an African Numerical Electoral Advantage! in Guyana.

I ask again. Why during Black History Month Indo – Caribbean Leaders and parents living in North America are not teaching their children about the systemic racism Indo people face in Trinidad, Guyana and Surinam. WHY WHY ???

Vassan Ramracha.
