Lately, Black racists and have been drumming up the noise about Apartheid in Guyana in their never-ending attacks on the PPP and Indians in general. The flavor of the past few weeks has been that Apartheid exists in Guyana… how true, and why it takes Black activists to expose this?  Where are the Indian politicians and intellectuals?  Let’s look at the evidence.

Indians are the clear majority but one of the most powerful institutions GECOM the supervises elections remains 90% Black.  The Army/Police are almost the same … 90% Black in a country where they constitute only 31% of the population. The Civil Service remains overwhelming Afro Guyanese. Given the power of these institutions only explains why are Indians kept out of them?

During the PNC racist dictatorship Indians were openly relegated to second class citizenship; their votes in the 1973, 1979, 1980 and 1985 election were thrown in canals.  Staple food items were denied to them, and jobs were given to PNC card holders.  Despite this ongoing discrimination Indians still survived but failed to put up strong resistance.  Even when the PNC started terrorizing them, Indians choose to migrate rather than fight. Where were the Indian supported PPP politicians? They were more concerned with Apartheid in South Africa while ignoring racism in Guyana against their own supporters.

Even after returning to office in 1992, the PPP the PNC’s ignored the apartheid policies of the State. In 1997, the PPP set up a Billion-dollar program to empower Afro-Guyanese but nothing to alleviate the poverty of Indians who were discriminated against by the racist PNC dictatorship.

The PPP set up Commission into election rigging because Afros wanted it but none to investigate the prior election rigging of the PNC. Irfan Ali set up a Commission to investigate the death squad but none to investigate the PNC death squad that terrorized Indians during the PNC dictatorship.

To date no one was apprehended in the Mon Repos anti-Indian riots, the 2020 anti-Indian riots and the 1997-2002 anti-Indian attacks This is blatant discrimination and a double standard by the Irfan Ali PPP. It is a clear violation of the Constitution and international laws.

When will the appeasement politics of the PPP end in Guyana?
