Inshan Ismael faced the brute fearlessly and won

I am happy that Inshan Ismael took CroCro to court and won. I hope that Ismael doesn’t fall victim to pious calls to forgive and forget.

It is time that TUCO and the Ministry of Culture be called upon to account. How could CroCro and others spew hate and venom and be in the finals of the Calypso Monarch, and more so emerge winners? This is atrocious to say the least!

What is a long established fact is that calypso and Ole Mas have been weaponized by the PNM to ridicule the Indian Community and its leaders and representatives from Basdeo Panday, Sham Mohammed, Sat Maharaj, Kamla Persad Bissessar and now Inshan Ismael. I shudder to think what would have happened if Indians were singing those venomous lyrics against the Black community. Luckily, every proverbial rope has an end!

One must acknowledge the grit and determination of Ismael to stand up against injustice in whichever form it manifests itself.

The Indian community despite its success – preservation of it cultural identity, drift and hard work and its excellence in scholarship and the professions and business- continues to project a koonoomono existence. Too many of us complain about social ills and discrimination from the government and other forces in hush hush tones as though we are immigrants and can be arrested and deported.

Indians must now understand that they have contributed to the development of this country more that any other groups. We not only resuscitated the sugar cane industry but went on to diversify the economy. And despite the blatant discrimination under the PNM, we have never resorted to coups and marches on the streets to overthrow governments.

Should any calypsonian or anyone step out of line, such and individual should be called upon to apologize or feel the full brunt of the law.

Congratulations to Inshan!
