A Bollywood movie always has a comedian to bring light humor in the midst of difficulties and challenges. In the 1960s and 1970s there were names such as Mukri, Dhumal, Johnny Walker and Mehmood. Other comedians came later but those early ones etched an indelible presence in the memory of movie goers and fortunately, with elections season around the corner, one is seeing a display of such comical humor in the politics, not among the politicians (stars) as such but more so the spectators and commentators.

Social media has truly given life to many washed-up individuals. String together a few words to form a sentence and lo and behold, you have a political commentator with the right to cuss Kamla, Gregory, her son and everyone perceived to be finding favour with her. These idle obscurantists have little achievements under their belts.

Five years of PNM misrule, corruption and abuse of the citizens and not a cackle from these comedians. Now that the elections bells are about to be rung and the army of the UNC has to be mobilized, these political nobodies are hoping to influence the politics. They now want to dictate to the political leader who should be hired and fired. It has to be lunacy at work!

Interestingly, some of these comedians are unhappy that the people of the heartland can think. This right of the people of the heartland to have an opinion of their own is scary to those individuals who copied their colonial masters. That people from the heartland can now speak and write the English Language, that they have produced world renowned Nobel Laurette V. S. Naipaul and other distinguished sons and daughters in the field of medicine, law, space research, etcetera can be upsetting.

A few of these comedians are forced to accept that education is no longer the domain of a privileged few but the rights of all including the heathens. The cultural persistence of the heathens after the onslaught the colonialism has only confirmed the strength and resilience of the people of the heartland.

Interestingly, these self-styled intellectuals do not have to study politics at the tertiary level under professional tutelage. Their modus operandi are to google or echo the editorials of the dailies and their racist columnists. With limited content in their heads these characters believe that they now have that privilege to dictate to the Political Leader who to appoint and not to appoint. These comical obscurantists have never held a position in a village council or sports club. Most don’t even talk to their neighbours. Nevertheless, they have convinced themselves that they are power brokers.

Jump high, jump low, the vast majority of people in La Trinity are opened to good governance. However, there are the few who question: “Why Kamla? Why not me?” This few cannot be ignored but identified and given a fitting reply. When they don’t have their way they usually defect to the PNM or float a fly by night party like the COP.

I must admit that I am wasting precious time on a subject of this nature.  However, such a subject is like sore and if not tended, is likely to fester. If not, the result can be amputation. We need to treat the infection and save the leg!

Colonial society has really picked up a few driftwood characters, taught them to wear a tie and eat with knife and fork- proxy Englishmen and women. This brainwashing qualifies them to talk down to others, to pretend to have the answers for all problems, a certain sign of creeping insanity…a comedy run afoul.
