THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION
KAMLA PERSAD-BISSESSAR, MEDIA RELEASE
From Good Friday and culminating on the morning of Easter Sunday, the Christian community of Trinidad and Tobago will join their global counterparts in commemorating Easter.
To them, I extend my very best wishes for safe, joyous and sanctified observances.
It is a time of deep reflection, renewal and rejoicing at the central event in the history of their salvation: the sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and His victory over death.
It is a time to remember with profound appreciation that He gave His body and His blood—washing clean the faults and the shortcomings of the world.
This act of unparalleled sacrifice represents the ultimate fulfilment of God’s sacred covenant of redemption to mankind in the Holy Bible:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Ultimately, Easter venerates the momentous point when good conquered evil, hope overcame despair, and life triumphed over death.
This is a poignant reminder that no mistake or failing of the past can put humanity beyond the reach of God’s great and ever-gracious mercy.
This timeless message of Easter undoubtedly resonates strongly in Trinidad and Tobago today, where our country is reeling from an ongoing, unprecedented brutal crime and violence wave, as well as economic and social instability.
For, it is in these tumultuous, uncertain, despairing times, Easter’s promise of renewal, rebirth and redemption reinforces the fact that hope forever springs, and God’s infinite Grace will see us through the worst of adversities, once we are strong, brave and courageous enough to embrace it.
To the thousands of Christians celebrating this holy season, I urge you to say a special prayer for our beloved nation’s redemption on this sacred weekend.
May the inhumanity, despair and destabilization that ensconce Trinidad and Tobago be washed away in the light of Jesus’s redeeming love and salvation.
And may Christ’s living example of faith, goodness, humility, unconditional love, compassion, peace, tolerance, and forgiveness for all always inspire us to embrace and emulate Him, in our paths to salvation.
On behalf of my family and the United National Congress, I wish all a safe and joyous Easter 2025.
