Dear Editor
Opposition Leader Mr. Joseph Harmon writing to Prime Minister Mr. Mark Phillips about getting rid of Mr. Roshan Khan of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) is hypocritical. Can Mr. Harmon kindly explain what Indians are supposed to do when they are attacked by Africans in the presence of policemen?
The same Mr. Harmon and PNC leader Mr. David Granger visited West Berbice and stirred up their supporters resulting in more violence in the region. Shouldn’t Mr. Harmon and Mr. Granger respectively resign as Opposition Leader and PNC leader? After all they are in more prominent and influential positions nationwide than Mr. Khan. Mr. Harmon has lost all moral authority to criticize Mr. Khan.
What is more hypocritical is the fact that Mr. Barrington Braithwaite of the ACDA sits on the ERC. How much more is he qualified to speak on harmonious race relations in Guyana? The ERC has already distanced itself from Mr. Khan’s statement. That is enough action for freedom of speech. Most people I have spoken to expressed strong support for Mr. Khan. He should not resign.
Respectfully,
Vassan Ramracha
