Youths like Vandana Mohit and Jayanti Lutchmedial are stepping up to the challenge and the aged, the infirm and the presiding officers of the parliament and the editors of media houses will now have to learn to live with this changed reality or step aside!
Our Senate is now being made a mockery! It is imperious on the part of the President of the Senate to be bothered about the decibel level of Senator Anil Robert. Like the Express, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House are on a plot to derail the contribution of the Opposition and undermine our democracy. This backwardness is becoming pervasive and the young minds of this nation are going to rise to the challenge!
One reason why the Roman Empire fell was because of the dismantling of the Senate, the repository of the finest intellectuals in the Roman civilization. But, instead of rule by the intellect, the sword prevailed in Rome. The emperor arrogated unto himself the power of a dictator and murdered diplomacy in a military coup.
The Roman dictator was a brute, never honoring treaties made with the barbarians. The barbarians took the hard decisions to fight to death to protect their lands, families and freedom. Had the Senate not been dismantled, the emperor would have been advised to employ diplomacy instead of war to settle conflict with neighbors.
The Senate President and the Speaker of the House and a few media houses are working to derail the contribution of our young bright minds in the Opposition. Opposition Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial was a breath of fresh air in her maiden contribution! Regrettably, the editorial of the Express chose not to highlight her contribution but to has mischievously chosen to pre-empt the contribution of MP Vandana Mohit, with an attempt to cast doubt and aspersion on her competence.
V.S. Naipaul said that India lost its head when the invaders came. To rule the society, the invaders beheaded the Brahmins, the natural leaders of the society, and promoted members of the lower caste. Like a communist regime of today, the servants of the British Raj took charge of the administration and lorded it over the Brahmins. P.K. Misra, a visiting professor of Sociology, said that the members of the lower caste, hired as prison officers, took pride in trashing freedom fighters who were serving time in prison.
In the eyes of the PNM the honest Indians are those with the PNM. This is the rhetoric that is being promoted. Terrence Deyalsingh, Rohan Sinanan and Clarence Rambharat are certainly not the voices of the majority of Indo Trinidadians but hustlers seeking their personal welfare! Imagine Terrence Deyalsingh boasting that a friend bought him a Mustang and no investigative reporting from the Express!
Universal education and an oil boom has propelled many individuals into universities, qualifying them for white collar work at senior ranks in the bureaucracy, foreign service, education institutions and the industries. This, however, is not welcomed by the PNM and the Express. How does the editor of the Express view young women like Jayanti Lutchmendial and Vandana Mohit? I hope not as revelers in a Carnival band with a beer in one hand!
Youths like Vandana Mohit and Jayanti Lutchmedial are stepping up to the challenge and the aged, the infirm and the presiding officers of the parliament and the editors of media houses will now have to learn to live with this changed reality or step aside! To quote Basdeo Panday, “Politics is civilized war, not a tea party.”
The Joe Bidens must be left at home to rest! Joe Public wants a youthful team with integrity and energy to represent their welfare. Now, Kamla will not have to nap with one eye open to ward off the ambitious!
