PEP in Trinidad MEDIA RELEASE – DON’T BE DISTRACTED, Vote on issues

Phillip Alexander

The sudden rash of national issues during a local government election is a dead give away of the contempt both the PNM government and UNC opposition have for the burgesses of the corporations that are supposed to deliver goods and services to the people.

It’s no stretch to say local government is widely believed to be a failure and I contend it is directly because of this contempt. Every walk we walk we see countless examples of easy fixes that could be accomplished if the councilors would simply do the jobs they are paid to do.

The Progressive Empowerment Party promises public meetings every Saturday, motorcades every Sunday, and walk abouts every other day to address the issues that are important to the people.

W call on voters to not be distracted by the circus of distractions and vote for the candidates who not only speak to local government issues, but address them whether in office or not.

Our country is failing because office holders are not made to keep their promises and upkeep their responsibilities. The presence of the Progressive Empowerment Party is changing that.

This election the voters have a choice different to the duopoly of failure and disconnected from the contract mafia, and we in the PEP call on voters to use their votes wisely to the betterment of their lives and communities.

This election could be more of the same ‘get in your section’ nonsense that results in zero delivery, or it could be used to prove that government CAN work.

The PEP strongly suggests that it be the latter.

An overwhelming victory for the PEP and our partners the Reunited Farmers will result in not only a change in the way your local government is run, but in the posture of the other two parties who would now be forced to deliver to deserve your vote.

I could end this saying vote PEP but I will put it to the voters to make their own minds up. We encourage them to vote sensibly, and usher in a culture of change that would redound to the benefit of everybody.
