Peter Pay for Paul, and David Pay for Faris

Dear Editor,

You know, I feel a certain sense of responsibility for the arrest and charges which have been laid against Mr David Lee in regard to the purchase of his personal vehicle. Had it not been for the hornet’s nest kicked over by myself, and my legal counsel led by Mr Anand Ramlogan S.C. in uncovering the still unexplained sale of a Porsche Cayenne between a former Attorney General and a former member of the Police Service Commission, this unnecessary and complete farce of a matter might not exist today.

Instead of the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance or Minister of National Security instructing the law enforcement agencies which fall within their purview to pursue and investigate the matter of how Mr Faris Al Rawi sold one of his Porsche, out of his growing fleet, to Mr Roger Kawalsingh in 2016 despite the vehicle remaining legally registered in his name until 2021, they instead chose to focus on Mr David Lee because the only trick in the PNM playbook has been to deflect and distract from any and all genuine accusations.

While I cannot claim to know the specifics of the situation surrounding Mr David Lee, it is immediately and observably apparent that this matter only arose after and as a result of the allegations made against Faris, due to the severity of the claims. That said, it should be noted that a report was made to the Police Service one year ago by the Leader of the Opposition, yet no investigation appears to have ever been properly conducted despite the overwhelming evidence, including my own FOIA, being more than enough to elicit a response by any independent law enforcement agency.

That might be due to the fact that after Mrs Kamla Persad Bissessar filed the complaint with the Police on October 1st 2021, a response was sent back to her office three months later, on December 15th 2021, introducing the officer who would lead the investigation, but also posing the following queries:

  1. “In your missive, you made mention of a person by the name of Aleisha Simon who you indicated was authorised by the Attorney General Mr Al Rawi, to effect the transfer of motor vehicle PCY 84. The Investigator is seeking your assistance in obtaining contact information for Miss Simon to properly investigate this allegation.”
  2. “Also, the investigator is requesting, if you are privy to any other information with respect to this mentioned allegation, if this can be deduced in a statement to assist the investigator to enable him to do a thorough enquiry. This information is urgently needed to complete this investigation.”

Because apparently, when it comes to investigating members of the PNM government, the Police Service requires the person filing the report to do all the groundwork for them, otherwise they are completely incapable of performing even the most basic of tasks.

When it comes to investigating the UNC Opposition, however, no amount of expense, time or resources are spared in ensuring that the newspapers have a headline for the next day, whether or not the charges are even warranted. Because the PNM have shown time and time again that the public purse is a bottomless pit of money to be used whenever they require the courts to do their bidding, whether it might be frivolous criminal charges or the defence of oppressive legislation.

Best regards,
