POETRY SATIRE

EXXON CAN KEEP THE OIL AND GAS;
I ONLY WANT THE LITHIUM
From Dr Tulsi Dyal Singh

I’m coming with my “Lithmomometer”
to check the Lithium concentration
in the produced water coming up
with the oil and gas from Stabroek Block.

Some people are already arguing
that mining and refining Lithium
causes more pollution than “fossilene”
for the vaunted electric vehicles
for which Lithium batteries are replacing.

But Stabroek Block can win both ways
because oil is married to ancient brine
and they always rise together
given a conduit to the surface.

Liza One and Liza Two and Payara
and the fish that migrate to Suriname
leaving their names behind
to denote oil finds in the ocean
can mitigate the Stabroek contract
which only monetizes oil and gas
but not the produced water.

Lithium is married to salt and brine
especially in the interstices
of sedimentary sandstone rocks.
How much is in the “frontier” Block?

(Yuh notice how Ah setting up de context
fih negotiate wid Exxon, Hess and Cnooc?)

So with Lithium replacing fossilene
to power surface transportation
I done draw up mih contrack
Exxon can keep de oil and gas
I only want de Lithium.

Tulsi Dyal Singh, MD.
