The opposition PPP in Guyana has won the March 2 general elections 34 seats to 31 seats, according to statements of polls provided by Gecom agents obtained at each polling station. Attempts by biased Gecom officers at headquarters to rig the numbers were exposed by international observers. The ruling APNU led coalition has refused to concede defeat and directed its officers at Gecom to declare APNU the winner. There is no doubt that APNU lost the elections.

The PPP convincingly won the elections. It must therefore make such a claim and begin to make arrangements for the swearing in of Irfaan Ali as President.

The international press refers to disputed elections. The outcome is not really disputed. It was Gecom that tried to steal the elections on the direction of APNU. There is no dispute that the PPP won; even APNU people concede this fact.

Calls have been made by international observers and diplomats as well as the leadership of several countries to swear in Irfaan Ali, PPP Presidential candidate, as the new President. That must be done quickly.
