Protest and terrorism do not address the underdevelopment of the Muslim world

Dool Hanomansingh

Islamists and communists have formed a nexus to fight the free world. This unholy alliance comprising of believers and non-believers is opportunistic and when come to power, one does not have room for the other. This attitude is well exemplified in China’s persecution of its Muslim population at home while forming alliances with Islamic nations to fan the flames of revolts in democracies such as the US and India.

The Left is willingly coming along with these Islamic forces to protest the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. However, when atrocities are committed by Muslims against fellow Muslims such as the civil war in Yemen and other parts of the Muslim world, there is no protest from Muslims. It seems alright for Muslims to kill each other but should the people of Israel stand up in defense of their citizens and civilization, they are declared aggressors.

The world must wake up to the historical truth that the Palestinians are invaders occupying lands that have always belonged to the Jewish people. Historical facts must not be swept below the carpet but must be brought forward to help negotiate policies. Since the 1920s when the Jews of Europe and the Soviet Union began migrating into Palestine, they purchased abandoned lands from the Palestine and transformed them into fertile and productive fields. The Negev desert was barren, but the Jews were able to transform it into a food basket.

Today the parts of the world that remain economically backward and underdeveloped are mainly in West Asia and Africa. This is being played out in the many ongoing civil wars and military coups that plague the region. Why is the Islamic world ignoring these ongoing civil wars? Is it only because Muslims are the aggressors? And why the silence on the displacement of millions of Africans into neighboring territories in the civil war raging in Sudan? Is it because these victims are animists and Christians?

Why the silence of the Muslim world when the Taliban in Afghanistan deny girls entry into schools? Where were the voices of protest when ISIS was beheading innocent Muslims? May be those self-righteous Muslims should begin by explaining to the world the presence of tunnels under hospitals and schools in the Gaza Strip and the border with Lebanon and Israel? Had the Jews been on the receiving end, would the Jihadists and Left come out in condemnation? Unfortunately, the near 250 hostages held by Hamas are ignored by pro Palestine voices. Is this justice and human rights?

The genocide and expulsion of Kashmiris by Islamists in Kashmir, India could not be raised. Those who attempted to raise the concerns of those indigenous people of Kashmir were shouted down. When Islamic extremists were called out for terrorism and genocide, it evoked strong protests from Muslims, communists and even those politicians who strive on vote bank politics.

After the ruling of the Supreme Court of India, the Ram temple is still protested by Islamist forces after its construction and scheduled opening on January 22 next year. This only demonstrates how bold and offensive some Muslims can be in their quest to impose their ideology on others.

Finding the time to protest on the street reflects the backwardness of the Muslim communities in the world. It would be better for Muslims to put their shoulders to the wheel and concentrate on real development. This is the only response to fight the inequalities and injustices in the world.
