Bullying is the use of threat and violence to intimidate another person to succumb to your wishes. Bullying is a growing menace in the school system that most principals and deans and the Ministry of Education do not have the character to stem.
The reality is that bullying is a learned behavior and today the biggest bullies can be found sitting in the nation’s Parliament. These men and women who are elected to serve the people engage in the worst type of bullying and this is bad for the viewing public.
The recent call by MP Robinson-Regis to party supporters to throw “holy water, salt and sweep the place with a cocoyea broom” when the Opposition visit their neighborhood soliciting their votes is an example of invoking the spirits of the underworld to bully people. It is similar to the ‘Les Coteux jumbie’ remarks made by Dr Keith Rowley after former Prime Minister, the Honourable Patrick Manning, suffered a stroke.
Bullying is endemic in the PNM. Al -Rawi believes that he is sanctioned by the divine to insult the Opposition. Like a prophet of the Old Testament he threatens fire and brimstone to all who oppose him. It is this diabolical and medieval mindset that is failing this country. Accusing the Opposition of being ‘unpatriotic’ and ‘having no shame’ is his modus operandi. Such culture of hate does not build a nation and is well displayed in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East where everyone claims to have a monopoly on truth and all others are wrong.
Stuart Young, in his effort to outdo the Attorney General, has assumed the role of a police constable accusing the Opposition of befriending known criminals. It is unthinkable that a government charged with the responsibility to run the affairs of a country, could find time to indulge is such low and nonsensical behavior. Young did not report his “sighting” to the police but used it to score cheap political mileage.
Stuart Young, Al-Rawi and Robinson-Regis are taking their hint from their Political Leader. Not to be outdone by his ministers, the Prime Minister charged that this “Opposition is dangerous to TT.” What is it in Rowley’s head to make such outlandish and irresponsible statement? It can only be from an individual who believes that he has a monopoly of truth and that his Opposition are a bunch of heathens who do not share equal rights with him.
But Rohan Sinanan wins the cake! Not to be out done by his Political Leader and colleagues, Rohan has opted to make a tsunamic charge that all Indians are thieves and corrupt except those in the PNM. Rohan has declared that he is not part of that corrupt race of people that ‘theif” from the treasury. The truth is Rohan is an ignoramus. He does not seem to be aware of events in politics of yesteryear.
Kamal Mohammed who served the PNM with distinction from 1956 to 1986 did not get an ambulance, after he was discharged from Mt Hope Hospital to take him to his home in San Juan; notwithstanding the fact that under Kamal’s watch the Mt Hope Hospital was built. Not a public building has been named after him to keep his legacy alive. Recently the family felt insulted when the Ministry of Works wanted to name a Round About in the vicinity of Divali Nagar in Chaguanas after him.
Rohan should familiarize himself with the Occah Seepaul’s house arrest scenario. The PNM always plays the race card to hold its supporters. So, if Rohan’s head can be put on a stake to appease blood thirsty supporters, then so be it.
The famous “recalcitrant minority” speech by Dr Eric Williams at Woodford Square resulted in Dr Winston Mahabir walking out of the PNM. But earlier, Dr Mahabir, anxious to demonstrate to his colleagues that he was no racist, charged that “Indians have hookworms in their brains.” He lived to regret it. Like Dr Mahabir, Rohan Sinanan would live to regret his insults to his race and community. No one who is a friend would incite you to hate your race or culture. Such an individual is not a friend. Rohan Sinanan must understand that Rowley, Al -Rawi and Stuart Young are not his friends. In their eyes he is like a tissue to be used and discarded.
