It has been said that there isn’t a person in this world who cannot be made to dance to some particular tune – meaning that for thirty pieces of silver there will always be a Judas around – even if it means selling out one’s Saviour.
So when for the last GE I questioned Kamla’s choice of candidates for some constituencies – San Fernando West, in particular – one person with whom I had until then a friendly relation felt supporters should not criticize the decisions of the party leader but that we should do like the PNM diehards and accept whatever Balisier House decides for them.
In other words, I was being told become a sycophant and go with the flow. Those who got positions on State Boards and URP contracts and other perks in the period between 2010-2015 felt it was and still is their bounden duty to support Kamla even if she is destroying the party by her actions.
The evil of sycophancy is that it emanates from individual selfishness and that once such a person gets his bread buttered, they don’t care who suffers. They don’t care if the party is destroyed. The sycophant is not one with a genius IQ but is essentially one who is the classic example of the expression, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Thus, they see that via Kamla’s actions the UNC is a shell of what it was and still worship her as if she is Indira Gandhi or Angela Merkel.
When Kamla boasts that she is the brightest person in the party she is right because those who worship her are IQ challenged and she knows that only such persons would turn a blind eye to her many blunders and innumerable losses and still believe in her.
When you cannot pronounce a simple word like people and convert it to “pepurr” and massacre so many other words; when you choose candidates that are definitely square pegs in round holes, when you put an OJT to head some national security position; when you keep putting back Wade Mark in the Senate so the Rundown will always have material for its satire moment and do so many other foolishness and you claim for yourself some kind of superior bizarre intelligence, you know how far down the abyss we have gone via the curse of the sycophant.
