Gwynne Dyer highlighted the “phenomenon of nuclear winter between India and Pakistan with nuclear weapons. The effects would be worldwide.” (Express 03/01/22).
He, however, has ignored the causes between India and Pakistan – the legacy of the origins of the conflict in an historical context.
India is a democratic and secular state. Pakistan is an Islamic state. The invasions of India by Islam armies with superior weapons from 713 CE are the roots of this conflict.
For example, Aurangzeb, the last Mughal emperor, attempted to create an Islamic state. He emphasized and rewarded conversion to Islam, and tried to rename as that land of holy war (dar-ul- jihad,” as recorded in Peter Robb’s The History of India (2002).
Andre Wink in in The Making of the Indo-Islamic World (2020) stated that “all Mughal emperors from Babur to Aurangzeb engaged in iconoclastic and temples destruction ….”
Belgian Koenraaad Elst in his Negationism in India (1998) said that “entire cities were burnt down and population massacred and hundreds of thousands killed in every campaign and similar numbers deported as slaves.”
K.S. Lal suggest in his Growth of Muslim Population in India that “between 1000CE and 1525CE India suffered a population decline of 80 million.”
A war between India and Pakistan will come with nuclear weapons. It is inevitable.
