Trinidad’s MP Condoles passing of Historian Dr Samaroo

On behalf of the people of the constituency of Mayaro, I offer my sincerest condolences on the passing of Dr. Brinsley Samaroo, a highly respected historian.

Dr. Samaroo passed away leaving a profound void in our community and in the fields of academia and politics, where he made significant contributions.

Dr. Samaroo dedicated his career to teaching history at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. His commitment to knowledge and sharing his expertise was unwavering throughout his five-decade-long tenure. He left an enduring legacy in both academia and politics, shaping the understanding of New World and South Asian history and leaving a lasting impact on future generations.

Trinidad’s MP Beyond the classroom, Dr. Samaroo served as a Senator, Minister, and Member of Parliament in the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. His humility and genuine concern for the well-being of his country and its people were evident in his tireless efforts as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and during his tenure as an elected member and government minister.

The loss of Dr. Brinsley Samaroo is mourned not only by those who had the privilege of knowing him personally, but also by all those who were touched by his intellectual prowess, leadership, and dedication to his homeland. His contributions to academia and politics have made an indelible impact on our nation.

During this challenging time, our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Samaroo’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those who were fortunate to benefit from his wisdom and guidance.
