Ravi Ratiram has demonstrated that you don’t have to be a member of Parliament to serve. However, a few do not share that view. It appears that some are prepared to die in Parliament and are doing all possible antics for nomination as an Independent Senator. Such an attitude is not a display of ambition but a result of a curse for a sin committed in a previous life. They just don’t understand that truth and justice is greater than personal ambition…it cannot be anything but a curse!
Sri Ramakrishna describes some individuals as hawks that fly the clear blue sky but have their eyes on the ground, waiting for the sight of a carcass. This is the state of the spirit in this society; not a culture of piety and self-sacrifice but the quoting of scriptures. Not only our democracy is under threat but our values which are now traded like stocks in the market for a pittance and to win the ingratiation of a Prime Minister.
Many of our politicians see politics as an avenue to fatten their pockets and with Kamla returning empty-handed with no goodies to share, they are very disappointed. Could you imagine this! One guy said that he would like to sit on three boards … “I am a pensioner and I need the money,” This is the state of affairs. They certainly were looking forward to a victory to put the roti on the table!
But politics does not end there. The strategy outlined above is the aspiration of the average UNC supporter and activist. But then there is the more sophisticated Trini who does not stain a political finger but waits like a monkey to swing to whichever camp wins the bananas. And now that the bananas are in the PNM camp, these opportunists are working hard to ingratiate themselves to Rowley.
Ramsaran is the embodiment of the Indian entrepreneurial spirit that our ancestors brought to this part of the world-hard work, thrift, and risk. These values are envied by the Indians that line up at Balishier House for their bake and saltfish thus perpetuating a culture of State dependency. Not surprisingly, none of them came out to bat for the Ramsaran family because the outrage expressed fell in their garden. Those feeding on taxpayer dollars are not just the youth on the block but many in high offices.
The creed of opportunists and loafers is: “If I cannot have a business like him, I am prepared to destroy him at all cost.” Not a word of protest from those guardians of our dharma. Nevertheless, their naked agenda are now visible for all to see.
But such behavior is integral to our history as a people. Indians have always assisted the invaders in their conquest and loot of their country. When Alexander invaded India, the Kingdoms in the Himalayan region hired themselves as mercenaries for a few gold coins.
Despite this Alexander was defeated and driven out of India. He subsequently died from the wound of an arrow shot by an Indian. In the midst of that invasion and occupation, Chanakya mobilized the youths and trained them as warriors. With a sense of nationalism pulsing in their bloodstream, the Indian youths drove the Greeks out of India. Alexander was badly wounded by an arrow shot by an Indian.
Out of every crisis emerged well. The defeat of Alexander resulted in the formation of the first Indian Empire called the Mauryan that lasted between 321BC -185BC. In a similar manner, Rowley and the PNM are assembling the young warriors – Kirk Meighoo- Rolf Balgobin, Raymond Ramcharitar- who came out in defense of the Ramsaran family. The fake leaders, now on their way out, are rallying with the PNM for the perks of office.
SWAHA is now in the dog house as Rowley ties the bond of friendship with Hindu leaders who have not built a daycare center or a clinic for the community. It is these jetsam and flotsam characters that helped to fuel the false race relation narrative of the PNM. They are the incarnation of the Arya Samaj of the 1950s!
Not all is lost! In the midst of defeat and humiliation, there is defeat and hope. In Port of Spain, a young Hindu lawyer with the help of volunteers serves more than 250 meals daily to the homeless in the capital city. When the first shut down for COVID 19 was announced Ravi Ratiram, the elected MP for Couva North, mobilized volunteers and distributed 500 hampers and prepared and served 22,500 meals to needy kids at home.

They just don’t understand that truth and justice is greater than personal ambition…it cannot be anything but a curse! …yes, like the cursed pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean who just would not die but left to wonder the ocean.
