Diwali or Deepavali is a time of love, peace and happiness when family and friends come together to share gifts, cook and party. Divali involves lighting of diyas, home cleaning and decorations with special Pujas [ prayers] to close the financial New Year on the Hindu calendar and give thanks to Mother Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth.

Diwali [Deepavali] is a very personal Day for the ‘Hindu Race. ‘ It symbolizes the Spiritual

Victory of Light [ Knowledge] over Darkness [ ignorance], Good over Evil, and Knowledge over Ignorance.

Diwali celebrates Lord Rama’s return from exile to reclaim his kingdom in the city of Ayodhya.

In Trinidad there is brewing fight this Diwali for two Kingdoms, that is, the UNC and the government presently held by the PNM.  Vasant Bharath and Devant Maharaj are fighting for the United National Congress (UNC) leadership to remove the People’s National Movement [PNM] from the government.

These two Kingdoms – Kingdom 1 (UNC) is headed by Kamla Persad Bissessar won 19 seats in the recent elections and is in internal squabbling. Kingdom 2 (PNM) led by Dr. Rowley won the majority -23 seats in the August 10, 2020 elections, thus forming the government for another 5 years.

In the battle within Kingdom 1 the main contenders Vasant Bhrarath and Devant Maharaj have to demonstrate to the UNC membership why they need to replace Kamla Bissessar as leader of the UNC to be victorious against the PNM come next elections in 2025.

Vasant Bharath and Devant Maharaja have to do better that just saying that Kamla lost the elections and therefore she needs to be replaced as Opposition Leader.

Vasant Bharath and Devant Maharaj must be involved in debates and explain their political philosophies pertaining to the economics of Trinidad’s development and their strategies and, techniques in the reduction in crimes and to make economic progress.

If Vasant Bharath and Devant Maharaj can explain to their supporters how they will dismantle the PNM political infrastructure that designed and choreographed electoral boundaries to the disadvantage of the opposition parties, only then they will be fit to rule the Kingdom.

Come December 6, 2020 when the UNC holds internal elections we will see who will be the next ‘Lord Ram’ to lead the political Kingdoms of the UNC from the  PNM government.

Shubh Diwali.
