Walkathon for Breast Cancer in Leonara

Dear Editor,

Leonora hit a “hat trick” in hosting another successful and significant event for the third time in three consecutive weeks. The first was the unofficial opening of the new Leonora sports ground, the second was a cricket match which featured President Ali’s team winning a tape ball cricket match against a Leonora X1, and the third, a walkathon for “Breast Cancer Awareness.”

The annual walkathon was organized by “Youths On The Rise” led by Leader Sasha Rawof from Cornelis Ida, West Coast Demerara, in collaboration with Dr. Dave Lalltoo, President of Recover Guyana. The walk started at 6:15 last Sunday morning from Leonora Track and Field Ground and finished at Leonora Kowsilla Park.

For the 9th consecutive year, the walk drew a large crowd represented by youths, elders, villagers, cancer survivors, the police and West Demerara Lions Club. The featured address was delivered by Dr. Elizabeth December from GPHC.

Yours respectfully,

Jai Lall.
