A girmitiya (indentureship) conference is planned for Fiji on May 12-13 followed by related Indian Arrival Day activities in various parts of the country. Girmitiya or Indian Arrival Day will be officially celebrated (a national holiday) on May 15. The government has granted recognition of the contributions of girmitiyas with an official holiday beginning this year.
The related academic conference is being convened by Dr. Ganesh Chand and a team in Fiji. (See Attachment)!
