Deo Gosine Recalls Contributions to Panday by NY Unsung Heroes whose work are/were hardly recognized

Dr Bisram with PM Panday and First Lady Oma

Dear Editor,

When I look at some who who dug up old photos with themselves and Panday, I am reminded of the French Philosopher, Voltaire, who said that history is a pack of lies that everybody agrees with. There were several dedicated activists who joined the struggle with Panday.

I want to recognize the “unsung heroes” like Narine Singh, Robin Parray, Mike Sims, Bob Aziz, Peer (Smitty) Mohammed,
Ramesh Paltoo and several others who started bringing Mr Panday to NY to mobilize the Diaspora long before he became PM. And there were from New York several others who were in touch with Panday very early.

Mr Narine Singh nearly lost his life in a shootout in a UNC fundraising boat ride on the Hudson River. He was beaten badly and spent time in the hospital. He was visited in the hospital by several of us.

Thank you gentlemen for all you did for Bas and for UNC and for Trinidad!

MAY THE SOLE OF BASDEO PANDAY FIND ONENESS WITH ITS CREATOR !
RAM NAM SATYA HAI!

(Editor’s note: Several Guyanese from Queens, New York, were very supportive of Panday, doing a lot of fundraisers, going back to the 1990s. Among them were Kawal Totaram, Jass Persaud, Herman Singh, Maniram Prashad, among others. Also, Vishnu Bisram worked very closely with Panday since 1978 when Bas became Opposition Leader till his passing. Bas had a great time socializing with Guyanese especially when he visited Guyana).

Best Regards
Deo Gosine

(Editor’s Note: Mr. Gosine and his wife Tara attended several fundraisers for Panday and UNC in New York. And they also donated significant amounts of money to election campaigns in Trinidad for Panday’s and Kamla’s UNC’s as well as to other political parties and to religious and cultural organizations. Mr. Gosine and Tara co-funded Indian diaspora conferences in Trinidad and in New York).
