I write in reference to the admission fee to attend the oil and gas exhibition in Guyana in November. It is outrageous, pricing out the average Guyanese.
“How can people and UG Students learn about Oil and Gas when admission to the exhibition hall is USD 1,995.00? In these exhibitions, the admission is generally free of charge. Only persons who attend the conference and companies that exhibit their product or services pay. Locals are supposed to be free. And that is local content. The average Guyanese can’t afford such a hefty participation fee.The exhibition is exclusion by price. The exhibition should have been used to teach Guyanese about the opportunities which exist in Oil and Gas. This show was poorly attended.
The organisers from UK have enlisted the support from your Ministry of Energy and by price, very few will attend. The government is partner to excluding poor and middle class Guyanese.
I was in Guyana and had planned to attend but changed my mind and di so only on the free day, which was Friday November 22. Out of principle I refuse to pay USD1,995.00 to attend a show with fewer than 200 exhibitors and that excludes the mass of Guyanese. We should educate Guyanese about oil and gas not exclude them.
We must immediately let the Government of Guyana know that the youths are our only hope to learn the business of oil and their admission must be free ion all days so that can meet with company executives. This is the “Bourda market” for my young Guyanese and business people to meet and learn about our industry.”The youths are our only hope and future. Admission must be free to all Guyanese.
