On relations with USA, in traveling around the country engaging the public, adult Guyanese are very supportive of the idea of Guyana linking up with USA — as an adjunct or as a part of America or through some kind of treaty alliance that brings the two countries together. Guyanese crave for the American visa; everyone, including the communists, wants a visa. They all will like to live in or settle in USA to join relatives and friends and enjoy a better standard as well as quality of life. They will love visa free travel — exemption of visa to travel to USA. And they hope USA will stand with Guyana against Venezuela’s bullying.
However, there is a small group of Guyanese (nationalists) who do not support the idea of Guyana becoming an adjunct of America or a territory. They see such a move as reverting to colonial control and imperialism as though Guyana today is not under (indirect) foreign control or neo-colonial domination or neo-imperialism. That group of so called nationalists excoriates America in private. They say the nastiest things about America but value the USA visa. They will not publicly express their abusive language of how they feel towards the great USA. They fear losing their visa as President Trump will act against them for abusing America and its policies. Some say America is not a bed of roses. If they feel so strong about not wanting to link up with USA or how they feel about Trump and USA, why don’t they return the visa page — request a cancellation of the visa, inclusive of family members?
President Irfaan, VP Jagdeo, AG Nandlall, Aubrey Norton, Ganesh Mahipal, among a few others, don’t abuse USA. They view USA as an important ally. And those in USA who don’t like America can do the honorable thing — return the USA passport and book a flight back to Guyana.
Almost every Guyanese, including the diaspora, recognizes and accepts that only USA will come to Guyana’s rescue and protection against Venezuela. Thus, they overwhelmingly support a linkage with USA.
