Hindus Heading for 1% of Population in Trinidad and Guyana

Guyana

A media reporter out of Toronto, Canada, a former editor of a national newspaper in the Caribbean, has projected that Hindus will decline to just around 1% of the population or Guyana and Trinidad in fifty years. The reporter, commenting in his personal capacity and not on behalf of any media or organization, feels that the leadership of Hindu organizations and Members of Parliament have not been effectively advocating the interests of their constituents. I will tell the tired Hindu lady that getting overseas He writes: “The Guyanese Hindu population is plummeting down and expected to drop to 1% of the country in 50 years. In Trinidad, Hindus are heading to 1% of the population in 30 years”.

What is the main reason why Hindus in both countries are losing numbers so spectacularly, and what is being done to address the problem?
Hindus are losing huge numbers of members because of conversion by Christian missionaries, mostly Pentecostal. Migration and lower birth rate for Hindu mothers are minor reasons, but the conversion is the big one, in Trinidad estimated by the census at 4.3% every ten years.

So the quick fix is to slow down or stop the conversion of Hindus by Christian missionaries and secondly, to bring back to Hinduism some of those who have been converted.
