Modi Given Warm Welcome in Guyana

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was accorded a very warm welcome on Tuesday night when landed in Guyana and when he arrived at the hotel. President Ali received the PM with an embrace when he descended down the stairs of the large Boeing 777 on the evening of November 19. The national anthem of both countries was played. The President also welcomed the visiting PM at the door of the entrance of Marriott with gracious remarks and with the national anthem.

A large crowd gathered inside the hotel at the entrance comprising of South Asian Indians, Indo Caribbean People and others cheered. The PM waved at them, offered namaste. Then the PM walked around inspecting the crowd and chatting with several of them. He shook hand and offered several namaste. There were several cultural presentations entertaining the PM. At the end of the entertainment, the PM posed with dancers for photos and shook hands. He again offered namaste and waved and was escorted to the elevator to get to his room.

In attendance at the welcoming reception were not only guests from Guyana and the region (like Dr Vijay Narayansingh, Raviji Maharaj, etc.) but also Indo Caribbeans like Ramesh Ramdeen, Bhaskar Sharma, Cliff Rajkumar, among others, from the North American and UK based diaspora.

Modi is being hosted by the President of Guyana and Caricom. He arrived in November 19 and leaves November 21 evening.
