Of Trump, Putin & the ICC

Since Putin’s invasion of Ukraine I became an advocate of the idea that rogue leaders should be taken out, removed, for the crimes they commit. I have gone as far as saying that a Bounty Hunter squad should be formed as once existed in the wild west where outlaws had a price on their head for crimes they committed but for which the law was unable to bring to justice. The Bounty hunter was a mercenary of sorts who, because of the bounty, pursued such outlaws for the money and not especially for the crime committed.

You know that approach actually helped in cleaning up America and almost made the outlaw a thing of the past, an anachronism. Who wants to have a gun pointed at him because there is a price on his head. Who wants to feel there are any number of guns pointed at you as you have become target practise for the Bounty Hunters of the world?

With the number of outlaws reduced to a minority and with leaders now becoming law breakers themselves, the idea of bounty hunters going after them instead is something that is expected to evolve into natural justice; thus, former president of the US, Donald Trump is soon expected to be arrested for crimes he committed and will be the first ex-president to be so indicted. At this same time, current Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has an arrest warrant on his head for his own litany of war crimes related to his Ukraine invasion.

What is interesting here is that the leaders of the two most powerful countries in the world are the first rogue leaders to be targeted for crimes committed as heads of state. Normally, we denigrate the law to be an ass for it being protective of those at the top who are above the law while going after the poor. However, this is a humongous transformation where two of the most powerful men in the world are on the run and have become the first official outlaws at this level, which makes me wonder if I heard Rowley say just yesterday that he is there to protect our young people and which made me also wonder if that was not in response to the ICC’s warrant for Putin for abducting Ukrainian children and that Trinidad is now high on the list of human trafficking. Was Rowley’s statement intended to preempt any ICC arrest warrants for high-ranking Trinis. I am pleased that my book, ‘Tyrants Wanted Dead’ is out there and that it keeps Trinidad on the ICC radar for wrongdoers.
