Prime Minister Rowley’s official press release today can only be seen in one light, and that is as an admission of failure with regards to national security and crime fighting. It also exposes why he has been ineffective in addressing the scourge of crime.
Lacking any form or structure, any plans or policies, he is once again asking the public for help in fighting crime. This is in line with his style of governance, since he has now laid the groundwork to blame citizens for his government’s failure to deal with crime, because citizens are not doing what he asks.
This is also the same Keith Rowley, who as the head of the National Security Council, did everything possible, including running to President’s House like a postman, to reduce the public trust and confidence in the TTPS from 59% when NTA Political Leader Gary Griffith left office to 8%, where it now stands.
His focus on legal firearms despite illegal firearms being responsible for 99.9% of all murders committed with firearms is also confusing to the public, especially as he seems to have no issue with colleagues and friends having legal firearms. And the proliferation of illegal firearms he speaks about is as a result of him failing to properly secure our borders.
His statement, “We have certain operations in place,” reveals just how misguided he is, as the NSC’s mandate pertains to plans and policies, not operations. This also exposes his dictatorial inclinations, as he once again encroaches on the independence of the TTPS in his pursuit of a police state.
All this begs the question: How in the world does he expect citizen participation/cooperation when the same citizens believe that as Prime Minister and head of the National Security Council, all he has done is target political opponents and made bad decisions that saw us with an unqualified Police Service Commission, who in turn gave us a clearly outmatched CoP, all the while as he continues to support the most incompetent Minister of National Security in our history?
