Today is Sunday March 24th 2024.
When one considers what has happened over the past forty eight hours, it’s really remarkable.
For a couple weeks it appeared as though Kamla had hoodwinked the UNC into bypassing the party’s internal election for its National Executive (all posts except Leader) due in June 2024, by selling to the party’s membership that it ought to gear up for a snap General Election.
The trick, being executed like a roadside magician, was to send the party into General Election mode and cause everyone to focus on a ghost General Election (that Rowley is not going to call before it’s due) so that party members would not have time to question whether the party ought to go into the next general election with the present National Executive, comprising as it does some of the most questionable characters to ever sit in our Parliament.
The roadside magic trick was so far advanced that Kamla was able to announce the opening of nominations for the General Election…and the closing of nominations by April 11 !
It was almost a fait accompli until Rushton raised alarm at what was being done. Rushton exposed the roadside magician’s sleight of hand and sent her disingenuous assistants scampering.
Rushton’s press conference on Friday March 22nd and the questions he raised then, has caused Kamla to backtrack and affirm that she will adhere to the party’s constitution which mandates that the National Executive election be held this coming June.
Of course, true to form and in keeping with the national perception of them as spineless, unprincipled, obsequious, unpatriotic rats the majority of Kamla’s MPs (evidently under threat of losing her favour) one by one issued statements in support of their hopeless leader.
The country is not fooled, and all sensible observers see their actions for what it was….desperate actions of the rats to preserve their opposition positions regardless of their true opinions about her leadership.
In any event Rushton has succeeded in his aim of having the party affirm its commitment to adhering to the constitution and holding the NATEX election this coming June.
For this the party’s membership should be thankful.
It appears that the strategic Rushton has won round one 1️⃣ in less than forty eight hours.
