Dear Editor,

I am grateful that you allow me space in your highly respected newspaper to congratulate the management of “Sangeet Pradarshan” which was held at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Cultural Co-operation last Saturday.

The show incorporated an ethnic dimension which augurs well for the future of multiculturalism in Trinidad and Tobago. The three-hour plus musical presentation further embellished the cultural strength of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and it could well be a production marking our country’s 60th anniversary of Independence, and similarly our 46th anniversary of Republicanism.

Probably, the organizers of this did not have this thought in mind when it was conceived, but it was surely a cultural gift to our nation-state. We must not forget or ignore that the Indian diaspora remains an integral feature of our national citizenry and all our cultural presentations, including Divali Nagar.

Sangeet Pradarshan is a production which must be inserted in our annual national cultural calendar, and its brand needs governmental and corporate support not only for local consumption, but for the international arena. Another positive tool to enhance our tourism product. It was well-planned, professionally executed worthy of commendation.

CAPARO.
